CONSERVATION
Manchester Water District is subject to the new
Municipal Water Law that is regulated by Washington State Department
of Health (DOH). DOH has implemented regulations that are
intended to decrease the amount of water use within a water purveyor’s
service area to minimize withdrawal from the environment for
the sake of fish and other wildlife while also providing sufficient
amounts of water for new homes and businesses.
The District has responded to these new regulations
by adopting a conservation plan that offers rebates
for water saving washers and dishwashers. The District participates in public
education promoting water conservation through use of water saving practices and appliances, as well as protecting wellheads, and watersheds to prevent contamination through pollution, and erosion. The District partners with other organizations such as the local purveyors organization WaterPAK that share resources and education opportunities through local community venues.
Water
PAK is an organization of local water purveyors that present
water saving options for gardens, homes, and businesses at functions
such as the Kitsap County Fair, Home and Garden Show, Kids Day,
and the annual Water Festival. Additionally the District
has implemented plans to replace old and decaying water mains
to curb water loss and improve water quality.
Our dedicated service technicians and office staff
routinely monitor water use for our customers during meter reading
and billing. If a billing is unusually high, or if a technician
notices a meter turning rapidly or if water use increases over
several billings a service request is generated and the meter
is checked. If staff suspects a leak they will leave a
door-hanger alerting the customer to the potential leak. We may
not catch them all, but we certainly try.
